Geneva College Announces 2010 Mancini Awards Participants

BEAVER FALLS, PA. (02/09/2010)(readMedia)-- The 16th Annual Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards will recognize the talent and dedication of 13 area high schools on Wednesday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in Geneva College's Metheny Fieldhouse.

The Mancini Awards are open to schools in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties. This year's participants include:

• Ambridge Area High School

• Aliquippa High School

• Beaver Area High School

• Beaver County Christian School

• Big Beaver Falls High School

• Central Valley High School

• Freedom Area High School

• Hopewell Area High School

• New Brighton High School

• Quigley Catholic High School

• Rochester Area High School

• Shenango High School

• Western Beaver High School

Each school's production is judged on its excellence in music, drama, dance, sets and scenery, and overall performance.

The Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards program celebrates the musical accomplishments of local high school students and honors local composer and musician Henry Mancini. Mancini, a native of Beaver County, had a long and celebrated career in the music industry and is regarded as the most important film composer of his time. He received 20 Grammy Awards out of an unprecedented 72 nominations and won four of his 18 Academy Award nominations. The Mancini family continues to support the awards program today, and Mrs. Henry Mancini, son Chris and grandsons Chris and Luca have made appearances at past ceremonies.
