Geneva College Announces 2011 Commencement Program

BEAVER FALLS, PA (04/13/2011)(readMedia)-- As the spring semester draws to a close, the members of the Geneva College class of 2011 are preparing to complete their studies, don caps and gowns and receive their diplomas. Commencement ceremonies for the graduates will be held Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7.

Commencement events begin with a baccalaureate service on Friday, May 6 at 7 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse. Rev. Daniel Kiehl of Meadowcroft Church in Westchester, Pa. will provide the message.

Traditional undergraduate commencement will be Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held outside in Reeves Stadium, weather permitting. Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Promise Dr. Saleem Ghubril will present the commencement address. Dr. Ghubril has taught graduate-level courses and spoken in chapel at Geneva and in 1999, the school awarded him an honorary Doctorate of Public Service. An outdoor reception for the graduates and their families will follow on the lawns near Old Main.

If inclement weather forces undergraduate commencement indoors, tickets will be required to enter Metheny Fieldhouse. Graduate and adult education commencement will be held Saturday, May 7 at 4 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse. Professor Emerita of English Dr. Ann Paton will be the speaker. Dr. Paton taught more than 20 courses at Geneva during her 37 years of service and is a recipient of Geneva's Distinguished Service and Excellence in Teaching Awards. A reception in Merriman Gym will follow the ceremony.
