BEAVER FALLS, PA (07/16/2012)(readMedia)-- "At Geneva College, we are concerned about the ramifications to students in western Pennsylvania and the surrounding area of Mountain State University losing its accreditation. We know that there are adult students who have been enrolled at MSU or who have been planning to enroll – and now they need to change directions. We are prepared to step into the gap and provide these students with a way to continue their studies," said Geneva College Provost Dr. Ken Carson.
Last week the Higher Learning Commission announced its decision to withdraw Mountain State University's accreditation, effective August 27, 2012. The MSU board of trustees may file an appeal.
"We know this is a terrible blow to current and prospective students of MSU," Dr. Carson continued. "Geneva has undergraduate and graduate degree programs that are designed for adult students. Geneva will work individually with each affected student on issues such as financial aid and transfer of credit." Geneva will also provide free counseling to help these students consider their options, including transferable credits, financial assistance and military benefits.
In order to provide this counseling service, Geneva is holding open house/s for adult undergraduate and graduate students who would like to explore academic programs of Geneva College. Open houses will be held at the Hampton Inn at 202 Fairview Drive in Center Township and at the Hampton Inn at 795 National Road in Wheeling, West Virginia on Wednesday, July 18, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. The open houses are free and no registration is necessary.
Mountain State University, based in Beckley, West Virginia, enrolled adult students at multiple locations in western Pennsylvania.
Geneva College offers its Adult Degree Completion Program at 11 locations throughout western Pennsylvania to help adults complete their bachelor's degree in as little as 17 months.
