GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA (08/26/2010)(readMedia)-- Gwynedd-Mercy College appointed Sister Virginia Hasson, RSM, PhD, of Philadelphia, Pa., to its Board of Trustees. Currently, Hasson serves as regional programs and human resources officer for the Jesuit Refugee Service in South Africa.

Previously, Hasson taught in elementary and special education schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She then served as an associate professor of education, chair of undergraduate education, chair of graduate education and director of testing at Gwynedd-Mercy College.

She has served on many boards for organizations such as Mercy Health System, Project H.O.M.E. and the Conference for Mercy Higher Education, among others.

Hasson earned a bachelor's degree in humanities from Villanova University, a master's degree in counseling psychology from Marywood University, and a doctorate in educational administration from Fordham University in New York.

Hasson was welcomed to Gwynedd-Mercy College's Board of Trustees along with two other new members, Sister Mary Ann Dillon, RSM, PhD, of Cresson, Pa., and Linda Ann Galante, Esq., of Philadelphia, Pa.

In U.S.News & World Report's 2011 edition of "Best Colleges," Gwynedd-Mercy College ranked in the first tier of its category, which is largely attributed to its high graduation and retention rates. The college prepares students to become top professionals in the fields of allied health professions, arts and sciences, business, education and nursing.
