Norristown Resident Sean McMahon Receives Distinguished Award

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA (10/27/2010)(readMedia)-- Sean McMahon, RN, MSN, of Norristown, Pa., was presented with the Ann Fitzpatrick Murray Alumni Award for Distinguished Service from Gwynedd-Mercy College's Alumni Association at a September ceremony. This award is given to those alumni who significantly contribute in the area of public service by sharing or volunteering his or her talent, time and resources in the spirit of Mercy Service.

McMahon, a three-time graduate of the College's nursing program, was recognized as this year's recipient for his compassionate care for those in his own community and around the world through volunteer missions with Global Health Ministry.

Last summer, he traveled to the Chulucanas village in Peru with 30 volunteers and treated more than 3,000 patients in 10 days, some of whom had never before received medical treatment. During his time in Peru, McMahon took on the roles of pharmacist, triage nurse and team leader to do whatever it took to care for the Peruvian people.

He also works as a home health nurse for Mercy Health System of Philadelphia.

In U.S.News & World Report's 2011 edition of "Best Colleges," Gwynedd-Mercy College ranked in the first tier of its category, which is largely attributed to its high graduation and retention rates.
