Independence Party of America Chair Hits The Road

Minnesota First Stop: 2008 Presidential Race At the Forefront of Talks

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (10/16/2007)(readMedia)-- On a multi state tour of the Midwest, Independence Party of America Chair Frank MacKay has held meetings with several prominent leaders of Independence Party of Minnesota. MacKay, a father of four and Chairman of the Independence Party of New York since 2000, is traveling the country in an economy car ramping up support for a nationwide movement to ensure another major candidate on the ballot in the 2008 presidential elections.

Chairman MacKay held a key meeting with the legendary independent politician and activist, former U.S Senator Dean Barkley. They discussed Sen. Barkley taking a lead role in the movement. It has been well documented that Chairman MacKay believes that New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg would be an ideal presidential candidate for the Independence Party of America.

“Senator Barkley’s reputation as a national leader in independent politics is well known to me and our party’s leadership. His work with Governor Ventura and his ballot accessing of independent candidates from Minnesota to Texas will serve our movement well in the weeks and months ahead. I look forward to working with a professional of the caliber of Senator Dean Barkley,” stated MacKay.

Chairman MacKay met with Independence Party of Minnesota Chairman Craig Swaggert, Party leadership and independent activists on Sunday and Monday. They held a series of meetings on the direction of the Independence movement and the 2008 presidential election.

Following the meeting, Chairman Swaggert stated: "We appreciate Chairman MacKay's visit to Minnesota. We had several productive meetings and look forward to working with him in the future. Although our primary focus will continue to be on the state of Minnesota, we realize that with the number of independents growing nationally there is a need for a national movement and we applaud the Independence Party of America's efforts. We will be having a state convention on December 1st and a national affiliation will be on the agenda."

Like the Independence Party of New York, the Independence Party of Minnesota has instantaneous ballot access by holding a convention of its state committee for the purpose of nominating a presidential candidate.
