PA Reform Party Considers Merger With Independence Party Of America

OCTOBER 21, 2007 (10/24/2007)(readMedia)-- Independence Party of America Chair Frank MacKay met with leaders of the Reform Party of Pennsylvania today. Mr. MacKay is also chairman of the Independence Party of New York, the third largest party in New York state with a membership of over 350,000 voters. MacKay is currently on a tour of all fifty states, spearheading the national movement to ensure the inclusion of another major presidential candidate on the ballot in 2008. The Reform Party hit the national stage in 1995 when it was founded by presidential hopeful and charismatic Texas tycoon Ross Perot.

MacKay stated, "Should another candidate such as Michael Bloomberg decide to launch an independent bid in 2008, there is already a thunderous level of support across the nation. Independents know 2008 is our year and we are forging the best coalition should a prominent candidate emerge." MacKay added, "Pennsylvania is a key member of this growing coalition."

Pennsylvania Reform Party State Chairman Tom McLaughlin is also excited about the Independence Party movement. Mr. McLaughlin believes that the two major parties no longer represent the mainstream. McLaughlin spoke of -growing party disenfranchisement, "37% – 39% of American voters consider themselves neither Republican nor Democrat." Mr. McLaughlin continued, "most Americans are on the bell curve."

The Pennsylvania Reform Party will officially vote on affiliation with the Independence Party of America on December 15th, 2007. The Minnesota Independence Party will hold a similar vote on December 1, 2007.

McLaughlin sees a future for a third major party: "America needs a candidate who understands what the people want -- not what the party wants."

The Independence Party of America is a newly formed national political organization which seeks to challenge the American two-party system. The Party's mission according to National Chairman, Frank MacKay is "to give voters a third option for the 2008 presidential run." Mr. MacKay is presently on a national tour to meet with activists and local Party organizers in all fifty states.
