BROCKPORT, NY (04/24/2013)(readMedia)-- Freshman Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week after two solid performances in the circle for the Golden Eagle softball team last week. The rookie picked up her seventh win of the year on Saturday.
Taking on St. John Fisher on Saturday, Berger was locked in a pitcher's duel against the Cardinals. The Golden Eagles lost 2-1 in eight innings, but Berger allowed just five hits and struck out a career-high 12 batters while walking two. Berger allowed just one hit through the first six innings of play.
In State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Sunday, Berger kept Buffalo State off balance the entire game, giving up just two hits on the day. The Bengals scored just one unearned run off of Berger as the freshman struck out five batters and issued only one walk. Berger has won her last three conference starts as Brockport improved to 10-2 in league play.
With the two earned runs on the week, Berger lowered her season earned run average to a team-best 1.92. Berger's mark ranks second overall in the SUNYAC as Brockport holds the lowest team ERA at 2.48. The freshman's 77 strikeouts also rank second in the league.
Brockport will take on Fredonia on Monday afternoon for a pair of SUNYAC games followed by a doubleheader on Tuesday against Rochester, giving the Golden Eagles a stretch of six games in three days.
