Jake Spalik Named Brockport Athlete of the Week

BROCKPORT, NY (11/05/2012)(readMedia)-- Jake Spalik (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) broke a Brockport single-game record against Montclair St. on Saturday and has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week. Spalik and the Golden Eagles fell to Montclair 55-49 in overtime.

Against the Red Hawks, Spalik caught 12 passes to tie the single-game school record for receptions with Felipe Diaz who set the record in 2008 and tied it again in 2009. Spalik caught six balls in the third quarter alone and tied the record with two receptions in overtime.

Spalik's first two catches resulted in two touchdowns for the Golden Eagles as the junior hooked up with quarterback Joe Scibilia (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) to give Brockport an early lead. Spalik caught a 28-yard strike in the second quarter and two drives later the two connected for an 18-yard touchdown to go up 21-0.

The junior receiver now owns the career and single-game receptions records at Brockport. Spalik set the career receptions record against William Paterson on Oct. 6 and currently has 163 career catches, with 63 coming this season. The 63 grabs are just two away from the single-season receptions record as well.

Brockport will host the regular season finale as the Golden Eagles take on Morrisville for a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest at 1:00 pm on Nov. 10 at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
