KINGSTON, NY (03/22/2012)(readMedia)-- The Dutchess County Democratic Committee endorsed Julian Schreibman for Congress tonight. Most of Dutchess County falls within New York's new 19th Congressional district, covering much of the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountain region. Ulster County Democrats endorsed Schreibman on Monday.

"Washington is broken," Julian Schreibman told the Convention in Poughkeepsie. "When Congressman Chris Gibson and the Republicans took control of the House in 2011, they embarked on an ideological agenda. They exploded the deficit with huge tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. And they opened up a war on women--even inserting an attack on women's health into a highway bill.

"This is not the jobs agenda people voted for. Since taking control of Congress, Republicans haven't done anything to create jobs or improve the economy. And just this week they brought back Ryan 2.0, a budget that ends Medicare and slashes Pell Grants, Veterans benefits and road and bridge repair. New York families deserve better. I will fight to protect Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security; we must keep faith with our seniors.

"This is a campaign for fairness. Years of rewarding powerful interests and the already-privileged must end. We must do this, for our families, for our future. After a decade and more of public service in national security and law enforcement, I know something about tough fights. I will bring the energy and attitude of a prosecutor to fix Washington."

Julian Schreibman was raised in the 19th district. He attended K-12 in Kingston's public schools, then Yale College and Law school-the first in his family to go to college; his family was supported by his mother's small business. In addition to the CIA, his years of public service also include duties as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan and state prosecutor in Ulster County. Julian lives in Stone Ridge, NY, with his wife, Shannon, and their three young boys, just minutes from the Ulster County home where he grew up, and where his mom still lives.
