Julie Arnold Named SUNYAC Player of the Week

BROCKPORT, NY (04/15/2013)(readMedia)-- After leading The College at Brockport softball team to three conference victories over the weekend junior catcher Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball Player of the Week.

Arnold batted .600 (6-10) in four SUNYAC games over the weekend, leading the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 record. Brockport swept previously undefeated and first-place New Paltz by scores of 3-2 and 4-0 on Saturday. The Golden Eagles took down Oneonta on Sunday 10-4 before falling to the Red Dragons 5-4 in game two.

In game one against the Hawks, Arnold went 1-3 and made a solid contribution behind the plate. The junior caught nine strikeouts from Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) and also threw out a base runner. In game two, Arnold went 1-2 with a run scored.

On Sunday, Arnold scored twice after going 3-4 at the plate, including a third inning double to right centerfield. The junior went 1-1 in game two with one run and one RBI and two walks. Arnold also stole her second base of the year.

Arnold has now hit safely in seven of the last eight games and is tied for the team lead with a .378 batting average.

The Golden Eagles will take on St. John Fisher for a nonconference home doubleheader on April 17, set to begin at 3:00 pm.
