BROCKPORT, NY (01/17/2013)(readMedia)-- Justin McCarthy (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland) of The College at Brockport Baseball team has been named a Preseason First-Team All-American by D3baseball.com. McCarthy is just one of two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) members named to the first-team.
McCarthy, also named to the "Players to Watch" list by Collegiate Baseball Magazine, finished second in the nation in 2012 with 10 saves. McCarthy posted a team-best 1.20 earned run average and finished with a 2-2 record in 30 innings pitched.
McCarthy joins Cortland's shortstop John Adornetto on the first-team list.
Following the 2012 season, McCarthy earned third-team All-American honors from D3baseball.com. The junior is the lone relief pitcher named to the preseason All-American team.
In two years of action, McCarthy has recorded 12 saves while posting a 1.34 ERA in 47 innings pitched.
Brockport opens its 2013 regular season on the road as the Golden Eagles take on Baruch College at 10:00 am on Feb. 23 in Union, NJ.
