Libertarian Party Chair Explains Platform & Policies

Another Improving New York Empire Page Interview

ALBANY, NY (11/23/2009)(readMedia)-- Chris Edes, chair of the Libertarian Party of New York explained how his party differs from other political parties and offered his solutions to New York's myriad problems in an interview published today on the Empire Page website.

Edes, a recent candidate for School Board in Rochester, believes the dominance of the Republican and Democratic parties has contributed to many of New York's problems, favoring "power over public service."

Edes believes that most local elections should be non-partisan. "Non-partisan local elections ensure that local issues are not obscured by party politics, as is too often the case in our state, where demographic patterns often result in de facto one-party rule," Edes stated. He also supports lower pay for legislators and eliminating extra pay given to committee chairs.

The Libertarian Party's gubernatorial candidate came in 7th in 2007, receiving just under 20,000 votes -- a fact Edes explains by stating his party does not cross-endorse Republicans or Democrats.
