Manhattan Political Activist Joins Empire Page Column Ranks

ALBANY, NY (05/25/2009)(readMedia)-- Larry Hirsch, Democratic state committeeman from the 69th Assembly District on Manhattan's Upper West Side, has joined the ranks of exclusive columnists for the Empire Page website. Hirsch's column, entitled "Hudson Views," debuted with a piece questioning Mayor Bloomberg's media blitz.

"The obscene amount of money he's spending this early in the campaign is more a case for public campaign financing than a case for the Mayor," Hirsch writes.

Larry Hirsch joined the state committee after more than two decades of active involvement in New York City politics. He previously served as a Democratic District Leader and the President of Community Free Democrats. Hirsch describes himself as a "a progressive activist and organizer dedicated to helping people, promoting social justice, and finding constructive common sense solutions to today's problems."

Hirsch views the column as an opportunity to "contribute to the debate by sharing my thoughts on important issues and providing an alternative viewpoint that changes people's perceptions."

Hirsch's career spans positions in government and the non-profit sector as well as consulting work. He was born and raised on the Upper West Side, where he currently lives with his wife and daughter.

Hirsch joins a team of columnists that include Stuart Brody, former leader of Upstate Democrats, Paul Bray, an Albany attorney who focuses on environmental and social issues, Douglas Boettner, a former civil service manager who writes about government, and Empire Page publisher and editor Peter Pollak, whose columns often call his readers' attention to editorials and opinion pieces published in media around the state that deserve a wide circulation.

The Empire Page is a non-partisan news website published by PoliticalNewsToday.com, LLC (PNT.com).
