JOHNSTON, IA (07/31/2008)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are honored to name Margo Fox as an Iowan of the Day for the 2008 Iowa State Fair.
Margo has dedicated a significant amount of time over the years to supporting the Iowa National Guard. Through her efforts, she has helped hundreds of families adjust to having loved ones serving across seas. Margo has organized a variety of positive events to bring together the families of soldiers. She has also been involved with organizing sendoffs and homecomings of troops, as well as sending packages to soldiers. In addition to her work with the National Guard, Margo has been one of the premier volunteers for the Blue Ribbon Foundation since its creation in 1993. She has done everything from setting up booths and selling water and merchandise for the Foundation, to driving shuttles for patrons during the Fair. Margo has also chaired both the party committee and the auction committee for the Foundation's annual Corndog Kickoff fundraiser. As auction chair, she set a record for the number of donations secured by a volunteer.
Margo's day of honor at the Iowa State Fair will be Wednesday, August 13. Margo will receive a night's stay at the Des Moines Downtown Marriott, VIP Parking at the Fair, special use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, $200 in cash, tickets to the Grand Outlaw National Tractor & Truck Pull at the Grandstand, and subscriptions to Iowan and Iowa Gardening magazines. Margo will be part of a special presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley Stage at 2:15 p.m. on August 13.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation began the Iowan of the Day award in 1997 to honor those Iowans who've truly made a difference for those around them. The Foundation reviews over 250 nominations each year, and selects those that show examples of integrity, decency, hard work, and dedication to community improvement.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $65 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
