Matthew Lashway Named Rookie of the Week
BROCKPORT, NY (02/06/2013)(readMedia)-- 197-pounder Matthew Lashway (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) of The College at Brockport Wrestling team has been named Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Rookie of the Week.
Competing in the John Summa Memorial Tournament at Baldwin Wallace, Lashway captured the individual title to lead Brockport to its 16th victory in the last 17 seasons at the event. The Golden Eagles scored 122.5 team points to take first place.
Lashway earns his second Rookie of the Week honor this year and the fifth overall for Brockport this season. Lashway dominated his first round matchup with a 12-3 major decision. The freshman recorded a 9-5 decision in the semifinals to advance to the title bout. Lashway took down teammate Cole Tristram (Newton Falls, NY/Clifton-Fine) with a 2-1 decision after earning 1:22 of riding time to claim the championship.
Lashway sports an 18-4 overall record this year, including a 9-3 mark against Division III opponents.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is the Edinboro Tournament on Feb. 9.
