MEDIA ADVISORY

Working people from across New York will be heard loud and clear outside the state Capitol when Governor David Paterson delivers his first State of the State speech on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. The March for Main Street will seek greater fairness and better priorities for the middle class than what the governor has proposed in his state budget.

Organized by CSEA, PEF, 1199 SEIU, SEIU 200; AFSCME New York, District Council 37, the New York State Nurses Association and the New York State AFL-CIO, the event will stress that communities, jobs and services are at risk under the governor's plan.

Participants will travel from every part of the state to be a part of the march along with Capital Region residents.

The event will begin in Albany's downtown Times Union Center with a pre-march rally beginning around 11:15 a.m. The march will begin at approximately 11:45 a.m. with participants exiting the main entrance to the Times Union Center on South Pearl Street and proceeding up Beaver Street and into East Capitol Park for a rally to coincide with the governor's State of the State message.

A media center will be located on the floor of the Times Union Center.
