NY LIBERTARIANS PRESENT EX-CONGRESSMAN & PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES AT QUEENS CONVENTION

On Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Libertarian Party of New York www.ny.lp.org will hold its annual State Convention in Queens County at the Reception House located at 167-17 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY (www.receptionhouse.com 718-463-1600). Business session will be in the morning. The State Committee will be elected then. Speakers will be from noon onwards.

The lunch speaker will be former Congressman Bob Barr www.bobbarr.org, who joined the Libertarian Party and is currently considering a run for the presidential nomination. Barr turned against the Republican Party due to the Patriot Act and other infringements of civil liberties. Former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel is also seeking the Libertarian presidential nomination and is expected at the convention.

Guest speakers for the afternoon session include Dr. Mindy Thompson Fullilove of the Columbia School of Public Health and the Root Shock Institute (www.rootshock.org) on "Root Shock: How Tearing Up City Neighborhoods Hurts America," which relates to Libertarian stances against eminent domain schemes such as Atlantic Yards, Willets Point and West Harlem.

The afternoon session will also present declared candidates for the Libertarian Party presidential nomination or their designated surrogate speakers.
