NYSARC TRUST SERVICES RECREATION GRANT

NEW YORK, NY (12/17/2015)(readMedia)-- The NYSARC Trust Services Board has approved a remainder fund grant of $8,000 per chapter to provide recreational opportunities for people they support. Last year, the AHRC New York City Chapter received a similar grant from NYSARC Trust Services to enhance recreational opportunities to approximately 300 individuals enrolled in 20 programs in all five boroughs and plans to use the funds in the same fashion this year.

By December 2015, approximately 200 children, teens and adults enrolled in AHRC New York City Saturday recreation programs will have participated in innovative music and movement activities at Daniel's Music Foundation, a unique music studio for people with developmental disabilities. The grant also made it possible for our respite weekend away groups to take trips to new and exciting places. Over 3 different weekends, trips were made to Howe Caverns, Albany and to a showing of the Nutcracker, all possible thanks to the generosity of the NYSARC Grant.

In addition, remainder fund grants totaling $ 1,466,000 were awarded to support NYSARC guardianship programs statewide. A total of $1,874,000 in remainder grants was awarded in 2015 to support recreation and guardianship statewide. NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts that enable people with disabilities to remain in their home and community while retaining Medicaid services and other government benefits.
