NYSARC Trust Services Recreation Grant

NEW YORK, NY (12/18/2014)(readMedia)-- NYSARC Trust Services Board has approved a remainder fund grant of $10,000 per chapter to provide recreational opportunities for people they support. Last year, the AHRC New York City Chapter received a similar grant from NYSARC Trust Services to enhance sensory and technology activities to approximately 300 individuals enrolled in 20 after school programs and Saturday respite programs in all five boroughs and used the funds in the same fashion this year. By December 2014, approximately 200 children, teens and adults enrolled in AHRC New York City Saturday recreation programs will have participated in innovative music and movement activities at Daniel's Music Foundation, a unique music studio for people with developmental disabilities. The remaining funds from the grant have been used to purchase music equipment for seven afterschool programs operated by AHRC New York City.

In addition, remainder fund grants totaling $1,660,500 were awarded to support NYSARC guardianship programs statewide. A total of $2,207,880 in remainder grants were awarded in 2014 to support recreation and guardianship statewide. NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts that enables people with disabilities to remain in their home and community while retaining Medicaid services and other government benefits.
