NYSARC Trust Services Recreation Grant

NEW YORK, NY (12/22/2016)(readMedia)-- The Trustees of the NYSARC, Inc. Trust have approved a remainder fund grant of $12,500 per chapter to provide recreational opportunities for people they support. Last year the Chapter received a similar grant from NYSARC Trust Services to enrich the programming in twenty AHRC recreation programs and plans to use the funds in the same fashion this year. Thanks to this generous grant, all Saturday Recreation programs were able to visit Daniels Music Foundation for 2 one hour structured lessons and 2 hours of community programming of their choice. This therapeutic music program is specifically geared for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, our school holiday respite programs in the Bronx benefited through music and movement workshops offered by Healing Arts Initiative. The grant also made it possible for us to purchase a new piece of equipment for our sensory room as well as smaller sensory items and manipulatives to enhance programming at five children's programs co-located at the same site.

Through this generous grant, approximately 300 children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities were positively impacted by these program enhancements.

In addition, remainder fund grants totaling $ 1,466,000 were awarded to support NYSARC guardianship programs statewide. A total of $1,874,000 in remainder grants was awarded in 2016 to support recreation and guardianship statewide. NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts that enable people with disabilities to remain in their home and community while retaining Medicaid services and other government benefits.
