New PEF Leaders Sworn In, Commit To Strengthening The Union

ALBANY, NY (08/01/2018) (readMedia)-- The newly elected leaders of the New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF) officially took office today after they were sworn in by Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. The event was held at PEF's headquarters in Latham.

Wayne Spence was re-elected as president, and will serve with a new secretary-treasurer, Kay Alison Wilkie. Adreina Adams was also re-elected to a second term as a PEF vice-president, and will be joined by two new vice-presidents, Sharon DeSilva and Randi DiAntonio. Maddie Shannon-Roberts will serve a second term as a PEF trustee, with Christopher Buman and Jeanette Santos. All of the officers ran on the Members' Voice ticket.

The PEF members elected as regional coordinators and to PEF's Executive Board will be sworn in at the board's quarterly meeting on August 23.

"I am proud to stand with the new officers and look forward to working as a cohesive team to build on the accomplishments achieved over the last three years," Spence said. "At a time when anti-union groups are attacking labor, I know this new team of leaders is committed to maintaining and building our membership to keep PEF strong. At the same time, we are also focused on negotiating a new contract with the state to further the benefits of union membership."

Wilkie added, "As secretary-treasurer, I am proud to be part of PEF's strategic, collaborative work advancing safe working conditions, job security, fairness, decent benefits, while rejecting privatization and attacks on public employees. I am devoted to building upon PEF's reputation for excellence, securing its future and bringing our union to national leadership."

PEF is the state's largest white-collar union representing 52,000 members in professional, scientific and technical positions. For more information or press calls, contact Jane Briggs, Director of Communications, at 800-342-4306.
