ALBANY, NY (08/20/2014)(readMedia)-- The Executive Board of the New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF) concluded a two-day meeting last week and endorsed candidates for federal, statewide and legislative office for 2014 elections.
PEF union leaders and political activists have met and discussed issues with several of the candidates regarding the state workforce and quality public services for all New Yorkers.
"This is a pivotal time in state government," said PEF President Susan M. Kent. "The citizens of New York need elected officials who are devoted to their best interests and who are strong leaders to make the changes necessary to move this state forward.
"Last week, the Executive Board made a powerful statement with its endorsement of Zephyr Teachout for governor and Tim Wu for Lt. Gov. Their history of advocating for middle-class values and their insight into the political arena can make a difference.
"We recognize the individuals we have endorsed, and for whom we will get-out-the-vote, tie into PEF's legislative and political priorities. This union stands on high ideals, and together we need to reach for what we know is possible – a better New York," Kent said.
PEF's Secretary-Treasurer Carlos J. Garcia added, "Our union has also endorsed state Comptroller Thomas Di Napoli and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Both of these individuals have proven to be vigilant in their responsibilities and have worked to end corruption and increase transparency. We are counting on all the candidates who have earned a PEF endorsement to share in our role to preserve and expand all the needed public services our members provide to the taxpayers of this state."
A complete list of PEF's federal and legislative endorsements is attached.
PEF is New York's second-largest state-employee union. It represents approximately 56,000 professional, scientific and technical employees of New York state and other public and private employees.
