Partnership Gallery Opening: "An Inclusive World"

Saturday, November 9, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, 2013

NEW YORK, NY (11/06/2013)(readMedia)-- On View November 9-30, 2013

"An Inclusive World" is a traveling group exhibition that brings together self-taught and formally trained artists in order to exchange ideas and enrich communities without identifying labels. The community of artists in "An Inclusive World" promotes an inclusive horizontal social model by blurring the lines of artists' identities normally associated with exclusivity. As artists, designers and active contributors of this exhibition, they raise community awareness about diversity, difference, and inclusivity. Curated by Vida Sabbaghi and sponsored by her program COPE NYC, an interdisciplinary art program that uses innovation to bridge and assist communities, the project involves over a dozen collaborating organizations. The traveling group exhibition was inspired by how art transforms lives in many different ways. It also promotes the idea that there are variations of norms for any group of individuals. Developed by COPE NYC with the support of Queens Museum's nationally recognized Art Access program, and Pratt Institute's Art and Design Education Department, a variety of activities including art workshops, lectures, public art and interactive art, will be an ongoing and an integral part of the "An Inclusive World" exhibition. Inquiry and engagement are at the core of SSDT's workshops and performances. Whether

discussing piece themes, generating original movement, or inscribing shoelaces, audiences are invited to join the choreographer and performers in creating authentic, one of a kind performance. Most recently, SSDT's work has been seen at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, on tour in Potsdam and Canton, NY and The JCC in Manhattan.

The company has also performed at Dance New Amsterdam, Long Island University, Dixon Place, University Settlement, Chester College, Portland Dances!, One Arm Red, and the Cunningham Studio Theater.

With a child-like playfulness and ninja-like focus, Mike Veny leads his drumming workshops so that every participant has FUN! Through interactive drumming games built around listening to others, taking small risks, and working together as a team. He weaves a story through the activities, and tailors the drumming games to support

the mission of the event or organization. Mike finds it superbly rewarding to listen to the participants conclude the workshop by talking about what benefits they gained and learned from it, and how they connected with their fellow teammates and new friends.
