Richmond County Savings Foundation to Present AHRC New York City with a Check on December 3rd

Grant Funds Provided to Improve the Lives of Individuals Served by AHRC on Staten Island

NEW YORK, NY (12/01/2014)(readMedia)-- AHRC New York City (the New York City Chapter of the state organization NYSARC Inc.) is a community-based non-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization provides a large array of services throughout the five boroughs of New York City, and has a significant presence in the borough of Staten Island where it offers residential, employment and recreational opportunities to Staten Islanders with developmental disabilities, as well as, at-risk youth. As regards employment, AHRC New York City offers a variety of vocational training programs that help individuals prepare for work and obtain industry based training. AHRC offers job development and placement services and then provides job coaching services to help support individuals on their jobs.

The Richmond County Savings Foundation (RCSF) is committed to supporting projects that enhance the quality of life in the communities served by RCSF. RCSF focuses on supporting charitable organizations whose programs and services advance educational opportunity, enrich cultural development and strengthen health and human services. In 2014, AHRC New York City, whose Staten Island offices are located in the heart of the community where these services are most needed, applied for an RCSF grant. RCSF will award $35,000 to AHRC. The three AHRC New York City programs to receive the funds aim to improve the quality of life for individuals with development disabilities, youth at risk and people living below poverty line. AHRC New York City provides work-readiness services, vocational training and rehabilitation services in conjunction with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. AHRC will use the money to purchase a Smart Board and 15 computers that will help the people served learn how to search for jobs and apply on line, as well as, to learn computer skills using the Microsoft Office Specialist curriculum geared to certification in the hope of assisting individuals in obtaining better jobs. AHRC will also be purchasing i-pads that will be used in our rehabilitation services to help other individuals supported in communication skills, money management and other areas that technology supports.
