BROCKPORT, NY (03/22/2011)(readMedia)-- Senior Stephanie Geer (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) has been a dominant starting pitcher for The College at Brockport's softball team since arriving on campus, and during Brockport's Spring Training trip, Geer was brilliant, earning six wins. Geer is Brockport's Female Athlete of the Week. Additionally, she was honored by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as the Pitcher of the Week.
Geer capped a successful Spring Training trip to Florida by pitching Brockport (10-2) past Worcester (MA) State 3-0 Friday afternoon. For the trip, Geer went 6-0 with a miniscule 0.24 earned-run average and 52 strikeouts while allowing just 18 hits over 40 innings pitched.
Facing Worcester St., Geer struck out seven of the first nine batters she faced, and finished with 13 strikeouts, the third-highest total in her illustrious career. She also authored a one-hit, 11-strikeout gem during a 7-0 win over Curry College, and a three-hit, nine-strikeout effort during a 2-0 shutout of Nichols College.
Thanks to Geer's strong pitching performances, Brockport won eight consecutive games to start the season, tying the 1993 and 1988 teams for the most wins to start a season in the last 27 years.
