Students Celebrate Thanksgiving with Harvest Feast

TROY, NY (11/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Students at the Susan Odell Taylor School will be celebrating Thanksgiving with their annual Harvest Feast. It is a special event where friends and family gather to share food and conversation. The students in grades pre-school through 6th grade, will be doing all the cooking.

Each class of students will be in charge of preparing one dish for the feast. For example, the creamy mashed potatoes will be prepared by the Kindergarten class. The herbed stuffing will be made by the first/second grade class and so on. Some of the recipes that are being used by the children are posted below.

The Taylor School loves this event and the preparation behind it because of the many social and academic lessons that can be taught. Math, Science, English and even Geography lessons are learned in the kitchen.

Finally, an event would not be complete without decorations. The pre-school class will make the centerpieces. Another idea borrowed (will be seen on my table next Thursday). To do this very easy art project you will need:

* 1 bag of dried beans

* 6 8 oz. plastic cups

* 1/2 cup of white glue

* 6 6-8" pillar candles (your choice of color)

* Scissors

Pour the beans into the plastic cups (about 1/2 full). Mix 1 tablespoon of glue into the beans. Put a candle in the center of each bean mixture. Let the mixture dry overnight. Then, cut the plastic cup and remove from the bean mixture. There you have beautiful candle stick holders for your table.
