Taylor School Math-A-Thon

benefit for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

TROY, NY (03/12/2012)(readMedia)-- The 5th Annual Taylor School MATH-A-THON will be held on March 14th, Pi Day. The students in Pre-School through the 6th grade will participate in this service learning project to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The MATH-A-THON program gets the students excited about math and helping others.

During the MATH-A-THON, students will be involved in a variety of activities centered around mathematics. They will be working with a "FUNBOOK" provided by St. Jude. They will solve age-appropriate math problems while improving their mathematical and computational skills. When finished, the students will be offered math games and centers to choose form. It will be a fun-filled day of math! Children may be dressed in math related clothing; anything with numbers of math, symbols or sayings.

Students have asked families, friends and neighbors to make donations to solve math problems. The funds raised will go to St. Jude, where doctors and scientists work to eradicate pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never have to pay for treatment not covered by insurance.

The students will not receive any prizes for their participation. The lesson is for the students to understand that there is no better act than a selfless one.
