BEAVER FALLS, PA (11/20/2012)(readMedia)-- Geneva College's student choir, The Genevans, will perform the annual Christmas concerts on Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1, 2012, in the First Presbyterian Church of Beaver Falls. Both concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The theme for the program is "Let There Be Light." Conductor Dr. David Kenneth Smith says, "The context of the concerts will be 'the people that walked in darkness have seen a Great Light.' The choir will explore the biblical themes of darkness, representing not only the chaos before creation, but also the confounded nature of the lost, contrasted with the creation of light, how Christ is the light of the world, closing with the admonition for Christians to walk as children of light."
The group's repertoire includes contemporary classical pieces by Eric Whitacre, Russian composer Konstantin Zhigulin, Randall Thompson, Paul Manz, as well as the works of Handel and Haydn. The audience will also be invited at times to join in singing carols.
Gail Henry will be a featured accompanist on the organ. She will be playing the three-manual Mueller console organ installed by Hinner's Organ Company in 1930.
Admission to the concert is free. A freewill offering will be received to help support the world-wide ministry of the choir, including their May 2014 music-missions trip to the Philippines and Malaysia.
The First Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of 8th Avenue and 11th Street in downtown Beaver Falls. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The Genevans will also be performing free concerts at Memorial Park Church in Allison Park (8830 Peebles Rd) on Monday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Old Economy Village in Ambridge on December 8 at 5 p.m.
