The designer of PNC Park, David Greusel, will speak at Geneva College

The architect will provide the address during Chapel and an evening presentation on Wed., Feb. 6.

BEAVER FALLS, PA (01/16/2013)(readMedia)-- Architect David Greusel will be at Geneva College on February 6, 2013. With over 30 years of experience, Greusel has designed such significant projects as PNC Park in Pittsburgh and Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros.

Greusel is a founding principal of the company Convergence Design, an architectural practice based out of Kansas City. He has taught communication skills to architects and allied professionals nationwide, and authored Architect's Essentials of Presentation Skills, part of the Architect's Essentials series published by Wiley. For his contributions to the profession of architecture, Greusel was elevated to Fellow in the American Institute of Architects in 2009.

During Chapel, at 10:10 a.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse, he will speak on "Redeeming the City...One Building at a Time," sharing his perspective on being a Christian architect.

"We will explore the many ways that believing architects misunderstand their mandate from God to cultivate the earth," he explains. "And we will develop, briefly, a theology of the built environment that puts architecture in its proper role in service to humanity."

At 7:30 p.m. on Old Main's John White Chapel, Greusel will present "Architecture as Moral Art: Designing as if People Mattered." During this talk, he will examine the moral dimension of working in architecture.

"Contemporary culture often paints architects as quirky geniuses who create building-sized sculptures," says Greusel. "While these architects do exist, and get lots of media attention, most architects are designing buildings to serve people, organizations, neighborhoods and communities."

While at Geneva, Greusel will also take part in a Faculty Lunch, speaking to members of the faculty about "Discipline of Place."

He and his wife, Theresa, have been married since 1983 and have three children. They are members at Christ Community Evangelical Free Church in Kansas City, where he has served as an elder and in a variety of other capacities.

Both the Chapel and evening appearances are free and open to the public.
