BEAVER FALLS, PA (01/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Three students were recipients for the following 2012-13 scholarships:
The George Polovina Scholarship recipient was Dawn VanderWagen, a math major from Beaver Falls, Pa.
The Walter Polovina Scholarship was awarded to two students: Dwight Morris, a chemical engineering major from Beaver Falls, Pa.; and Ian Stear, a chemical engineering major from Perkasie, Pa
The George Polovina scholarship was established by his sister, Sophia Polovina White, Sophia was a 1939 Geneva graduate. George taught math in the Aliquippa High School for some 30 years. Sophia noted that George helped his parents, Martha and Joseph Polovina, send the five younger siblings to college during the depression years. That is the reason she established this fund in his memory.
The Walter Polovina scholarship was established by his children, Jeffrey, Joseph and Linda Polovina in support of science majors, preferably chemistry. Walter attended Geneva for two years thru 1939 and continued his education at Carnegie Institute of Technology. However, it was stated "his love for chemistry was aided and fostered at Geneva." This is the reason his children established this fund in his memory.
