ST.PAUL, MN (02/24/2015)(readMedia)-- The University of Northwestern – St. Paul (UNW) Department of Music is pleased to announce the Northwestern Orchestra will perform a concert featuring winners of the Concerto-Aria competiton and special guest conductor Lorena Vergara of Chile:

Vergara is conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Puente Alto, Chile. She will conduct the orchestra on pieces that include Conga del Fuego Nuevo by Márquez, Danza Fantástica by Soro, and Suite from La Pérgola de las Flores by Campo, arranged by Espinoza. This engagement is part of a conductor exchange sponsored by Ibermúsicas and CODA (College Orchestra Directors Association) to promote music of the Americas. UNW Orchestra Conductor David Kozamchak spent a week in January conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Puente Alto in Santiago, Chile.
Rachel Bauske and Maegan Benham, winners of the 2014–15 Concerto-Aria Competition held in December, will perform as featured guest artists with the Northwestern Orchestra, under the direction of Kozamchak.
Bauske, flute, will perform Liebermann's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, Op. 39, accompanied by Herbert Johnson, piano. A senior at Northwestern, Bauske studies flute with Michele Frisch and is pursuing a Music Performance degree.
Benham, soprano, will perform Donizetti's "Quel guardo, il cavaliere...So anch'io la virtu magica" from Don Pasquale. A junior at Northwestern, Benham studies voice with Carol Eikum and is pursuing a Music Performance degree.
The concert is free and open to the public.
