BROCKPORT, NY (10/16/2012)(readMedia)-- Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The forward tallied eight points in a 3-0 week for the Brockport women's soccer team.
Against Wells on Tuesday, the Golden Eagles dominated the match and came out with a 7-0 victory. Gillette scored two goals, her second multi-goal game of the season. Three days later against Cortland, Gillette tallied her 13th goal of the season. With the game tied at two, Gillette found the back of the net with less than a minute to play to give Brockport the victory.
On Saturday against Oswego, Gillette scored the game's first goal just five minutes into the match as Brockport came away with a 3-1 victory. Gillette has now scored at least one goal in her last five games. In those five games, the junior has accounted for all five game-winning goals, giving her six total on the season. Gillette has scored a goal in 11 of the team's 15 games this year.
Gillette also ranks atop most offensive categories in the SUNYAC. Gillette is the league leader in points with 32 and goals with 14, doubling the second-highest total in the conference.
Brockport's final regular season conference weekend will be held at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field as the Golden Eagles host Potsdam on Friday and Plattsburgh on Saturday. Brockport is currently in third place in the conference standings with a 5-1-1 record.
