KINGSTON, NY (04/09/2012)(readMedia)-- Democratic candidate for New York's 19th Congressional District, Julian Schreibman, announced Monday that he has been endorsed by the Working Families Party.
"In the Upper Hudson Valley, ordinary families are tired of politicians who side with Wall Street and corporate lobbyists when they think we're not paying attention. But that's what Chris Gibson did when he voted to gut Medicare and turn it into a voucher system," said Jess Wisneski, Legislative Director at Citizens Action New York and a leader in the Working Families Party. "We're proud to support Julian Schreibman for Congress, because we know he'll fight to bring working families' values back to Washington."
"It is my honor to receive this endorsement," Schreibman said. "Washington is broken in large part because people like Congressman Gibson stop listening to the people he represents. When I am elected I will fight for the values and interests of the middle class. I will protect Medicare and Social Security from Wall Street bankers who want to privatize them. I will make clean air and water a priority and I will always stand up for women's health."
The WFP endorsement comes following endorsements from the Dutchess, Greene, Columbia and Ulster County Democrats, counties that constitute over 60% of the population in the newly-redrawn 19th Congressional District.
Julian Schreibman was raised in Kingston and graduated from Kingston High School. The first in his family to go to college, Julian graduated from Yale and Yale Law School, working throughout to help cover expenses. Julian served as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan, and, as an Assistant General Counsel at the CIA he received the Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award for assisting in the prosecution of four al Qaeda members for bombing U.S. embassies. He returned home and served as Senior Assistant District Attorney in Ulster County. He lives in Stone Ridge, NY, with his wife, Shannon, and their three young boys.
