ALBANY, NY (07/09/2014)(readMedia)-- Women in Insurance & Financial Services (WIFS) is organizing a virtual run to be held on September 13th, 2014. The Imagine the Cure WIFS Virtual 5K will raise funds, encourage team building and community involvement, and give back to women everywhere.
The run is being held in September to promote Ovarian Cancer Awareness, an illness that an estimated 22,000 women will be diagnosed with this year in the United States alone. A portion of all proceeds from this event will benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
A virtual run has no specific starting location or time, making it an ideal event to engage WIFS members located throughout the US. "Our membership spans 49 states, a wide range of ages, and women in every stage of their career. Creating a sense of community can be challenging, but it is experiences like the Virtual Run and our Annual Conference that bring our members together," says Deborah Duffy, WIFS Executive Director.
Participants in the Virtual 5K can share their training ups and downs on various social media outlets with the tag #imaginethecure, further encouraging the feeling of community. There is also some healthy competition in play, with individual runners and chapters receiving special recognition and medals at the WIFS Annual Conference in Orlando Florida, October 22nd - 25th.

About the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund:
Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF), founded in 1994, is the oldest and largest charity in the United States funding ovarian cancer research, and ranks third in overall ovarian cancer research funding. The mission of OCRF is to fund scientific research that leads to more effective identification, treatment, and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer. Thanks to the generosity of individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners, their investigators are developing innovative strategies for early detection; exploring the genetics that increase risk for ovarian cancer; understanding the underlying molecular biology of the disease; identifying new and better targets for treatment; and deciphering how and why ovarian cancer spreads, and how to stop it.
