Would-Be Republican Nominee Favors Unicameral Legislature

Rick Lazio Seeks Fundamental Reforms

ALBANY, NY (10/12/2009)(readMedia)-- Rick Lazio, the first announced candidate for the Republican nomination for governor, explains why fundamental reforms to solve New York's problems must start with a constitutional convention and adoption of a unicameral legislature in an interview published today on the Empire Page.

Lazio describes the current two-house legislature as "a system that stifles transparency and lowers the accountability of our elected officials in Albany."

In addition to a unicameral legislature, Lazio favors a "hard property tax ceiling" and will be announcing a plan to "stop crushing mandates being handed down from Albany".

As governor his goals would be "growing jobs, cutting government spending, property taxes, fixing our schools, reforming health care, and improving education."
