Albany Law Sharing Services Program Administrator Interviewed by Empire Page

ALBANY, NY (10/08/2008)(readMedia)-- Getting the word out to local government managers about the state’s shared services program has been delegated in part to the Government Law Center at Albany Law School and to director of the Technical Assistance Project of the Shared Muncipal Services Incentive Paul D. Moore.

The Empire Page interviewed Moore to learn what his program does and how much progress he's seeing in the third of a three-part series of interviews focusing on shared government services. (See earlier Empire Page interviews with Secretary of State Lorraine Cortes-Vazquez and Patricia E. Salkin, director of the Government Law Center.)

Moore finds local officials have three basic questions: What is the legal authority and the procedures for implementing the service sharing? (2) What types of results that can be expected? and (3) What are the fiscal implications of implementing shared service approaches?

He reviews how his program works with local government specialists in Secretary of State’s office as well as with interested associations, state agencies and colleges.

“New York State has made a commitment to support the concept of sharing services,” stated Peter G. If so, what kind of results are they getting? If not, why not?”
