CLIVE, IA (11/06/2012)(readMedia)-- The Iowa Association of Realtors® (IAR) congratulates the Central Iowa Board of Realtors® recipient of the 2012 Fair Housing Recognition Award. IAR presented the award at its Annual Awards Luncheon held in Ames this fall.
Each year IAR recognizes a local board for the most innovative idea to promote equal opportunity in housing in their community. The Central Iowa Board of Realtors® received the award for sponsoring a unique holiday charity event and a continuing education seminar in the spring.
For the holiday event, the board invited family and consumer science classes from schools in Boone and Story Counties to create and donate gingerbread houses that incorporated fair housing themes. The houses were auctioned off and proceeds were donated to homeless shelters in Boone and Ames.
In April the Board collaborated with the City of Ames Housing Department and the Ames Rental Association to host a free lunch and continuing education session for rental property owners, property management company staff and Realtors®.
"It was an honor to receive this award from IAR," shares K'Lynn Lynn, president of the Central Iowa Board of Realtors®. "Our membership was very involved with this entire project to bring awareness of Fair Housing to our local area. I'm proud to be part of such an energetic and innovative board."
The National Association of Realtors® and the IAR join with local boards across the nation to promote fair housing to all individuals.
