Sharon Tahere-2013 Good Neighbor of the Year Award Recipient

CLIVE, IA (10/30/2013)(readMedia)-- The Iowa Association of Realtors®(IAR) honors Sharon Tahere of Bettendorf as the 2013 Good Neighbor Award winner. The announcement was made at the IAR Annual Convention held in Altoona this fall. The Good Neighbor Award, which recognizes IAR members that are making positive changes in their communities by helping others, is sponsored by the Realtor® Foundation of Iowa (RFI).

Tahere is a member of the Quad City Area Realtor® Association (QCARA), and has been a Realtor® with Ruhl & Ruhl since 1993. She was nominated for her work with The 180 Zone, a faith based, non-profit ministry that houses men, women, families, children and youth while their lives are restored. They have a 22-bed facility for women (Norma's Place) as well as a facility for male residents.

Tahere was heavily involved with the creation and opening of the Norma's Place facility. She has remained committed to the organization; however she now focuses her attention on the well-being on the residents themselves by volunteering to mentor, cook, transport and council them to ensure they are able to positively transform their lives.

A fellow volunteer at The 180 Zone, Angie Mozingo, says, "When a need arises, Sharon is there to help however she can. I am truly honored and very privileged to volunteer with her. She is someone I look up to and respect greatly."

"Sharon Tahere represents Iowa Realtors® so well! She displays her dedication to helping the women in Norma's place by devoting between 15-20 hours per week," says R. Scott Case, President of the Realtor® Foundation of Iowa. As the recipient of the Good Neighbor award, the Realtor® Foundation of Iowa donated $1,500 to The 180 Zone in honor of Tahere's contributions to the organization.

Karen Kayser of Waterloo was the Good Neighbor Award Runner-Up for her contributions to the Magical Mix Kids Organization. Magical Mix Kids received a $1,000 donation in her honor from the RFI. Sara Hopkins received honorable mention for her involvement with four Des Moines area charities: Iowa Casa Program, Air Noir/Des Moines Art Center, I Have a Dream Foundation and Junior League of Iowa. RFI made a $500 contribution in honor of her work with those organizations.
