Denver Resident Susan Kiely Receives Distinguished Award From Alma Mater in Pennsylvania

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA (10/27/2010)(readMedia)-- Reverend Susan Kiely, of Denver, Colo., was presented with a Distinguished Alumni Award from Gwynedd-Mercy College's Alumni Association during a September ceremony. The award is the highest alumni honor that Gwynedd-Mercy College bestows upon an outstanding alumna or alumnus.

Kiely, class of 1970, was recognized for her entrepreneurial, philanthropic and humanitarian spirit with her organization, Women With A Cause (WWAC). The international organization teaches poverty-stricken women in third-world countries skills that will lead them to self-sufficiency.

Kiely is a graduate of the Denver Seminary with a master's degree in youth and family ministry, which afforded her the opportunity to serve as a community organizer for an inner-city church, work with Volunteers of America and serve the City of Denver as chairperson of the Commission on Aging. Susan has been recognized with many awards including The University of Denver International Bridge Builders Award (which she shared with her husband, businessman, Leo Kiely), the National Charity League Lifetime Achievement Award, Volunteers of America American Spirit Award and the Republican Women's Club Achievement Award.

Kiely serves on the boards of the Irish Community Center, the Barnabus Outreach, and the Denver Foundation, all located in Denver.

In U.S.News & World Report's 2011 edition of "Best Colleges," Gwynedd-Mercy College ranked in the first tier of its category, which is largely attributed to its high graduation and retention rates. The college prepares students to become top professionals in the fields of allied health professions, arts and sciences, business, education and nursing. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1948, Gwynedd-Mercy College is a coeducational institution offering more than 40 associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs on a full- and part-time basis.
