ST.PAUL, MN (05/03/2010)(readMedia)-- Northwestern College welcomes spring commencement speaker, Dr. William Hamel on Saturday, May 15. Hamel has served the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) as its president since 1997. While giving overall directional leadership to the EFCA, his responsibilities include leading the EFCA Directional Team and the Missional Integration Team at the EFCA national office. Bill also works directly with the 18 EFCA district superintendents. He is responsible to the EFCA Board of Directors, and takes seriously his role of encouraging and building into the lives of the national office staff.
Hamel recently led the denomination through the adoption of the new EFCA Statement of Faith, and continues to bring vision for the future. Prior to serving as the EFCA President, Hamel's varied experiences equipped him for his current position. He has served the EFCA in the roles of local church pastor, district superintendent, and executive vice president.
He holds a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, as well as honorary doctorates from Trinity Western University and Trinity International University.
Northwestern's commencement ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15.
