ALBANY, NY (09/22/2016)(readMedia)-- BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD (United States, 2007, 117 minutes, color, directed by Sidney Lumet) will be shown on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. Sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute as part of its Classic Film Series, the screening is free and open to the public.
This "superb crime melodrama" (Roger Ebert), which won the AFI award for Movie of the Year, was the final film of legendary director Sidney Lumet. Two brothers plan a robbery of their parents' jewelry store. What was supposed to be a "victimless crime" spins out of control leading to disastrous consequences. The film stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Albert Finney, and Marisa Tomei.
The screenplay was written by Kelly Masterson. He will be appearing at the Writers Institute to provide commentary following the screening of his film SNOWPIERCER on Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the UAlbany Downtown Campus.
