Film "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" to be screened at UAlbany on April 15, 2016

ALBANY, NY (04/01/2016)(readMedia)-- WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF (United States, 1966, 131 minutes, b/w, directed by Mike Nichols) will be shown on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. Sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute as part of its Spring 2016 Classic Film Series, the screening is free and open to the public.

This adaptation of playwright Edward Albee's hilarious and harrowing masterpiece received thirteen Oscar nominations, and earned the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Elizabeth Taylor. In addition to Taylor, the film also stars Richard Burton, George Segal, and Sandy Dennis, who won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

The film is being screened in conjunction with the appearance of theatre director Pam MacKinnon, who received the 2013 Tony Award for Best Direction for her revival of the play "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" MacKinnon will present The 20th Annual Burian Lecture on April 18, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center, on the UAlbany uptown campus. MacKinnon will also hold an informal seminar the same day at 4:15 p.m., also in the Recital Hall.
