ALBANY, NY (10/30/2014)(readMedia)-- GREAT EXPECTATIONS (United Kingdom, 1946, 118 minutes, b/w, directed by David Lean) will be shown on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. Sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute as part of its Classic Film Series, the screening is free and open to the public.

Widely regarded as one of the best translations of literature to the screen, David Lean's adaptation of Charles Dickens's 1861 novel was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, and won for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. The Village Voice called it, "one of those rare cases of genius adapting genius."
