GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA (05/21/2010)(readMedia)-- Gwynedd-Mercy College recently awarded Gigi Cox, LPN, of Norristown, Pa., with a Nursing Excellence Award for her outstanding contributions to nursing.
The college awarded four area nurses in 2010. A ceremony and reception was held on the college's campus on May 6, during National Nurses Week.
The awards recognize nurses who have provided extraordinary service to patients, families and the community. Nurses working in all settings and at all levels within the profession are eligible for nomination. The awards are made possible through a donation by Fred and Nancy Allegrezza, local residents of our community. The Allegrezzas hope these awards will help to raise community and professional awareness of the value and role nurses have in providing health care services in the community. Each recipient received an engraved crystal vase and $2,500.
Cox is a certified LPN and currently the unit manager and assistant director of nursing at Meadowood Retirement Community in Worcester, Pa. She is currently finishing a degree to become a registered nurse. Cox has more than 20 years experience as a nurse and has worked for three years at Meadowood, where she is exceptionally knowledgeable in the area of wounds and infection control. Aside from her full-time job at Meadowood, Cox also works part time as a pool nurse. Each month, she trains staff on infection control.
