GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA (05/21/2010)(readMedia)-- Gwynedd-Mercy College recently awarded Mary Anne Canales, RN, MSN, of Warrington, Pa., with a Nursing Excellence Award for her outstanding contributions to nursing.
Gwynedd-Mercy College awarded four area nurses in 2010. A ceremony and reception was held at the college on May 6 during National Nurses Week.
The Nursing Excellence Awards recognize nurses who have provided extraordinary service to patients, families and the community. Nurses working in all settings and at all levels within the profession are eligible for nomination. These awards are made possible through a donation by Fred and Nancy Allegrezza, local residents of our community. The Allegrezzas hope these awards will help to raise community and professional awareness of the value and role nurses have in providing health care services in the community. Each recipient received an engraved crystal vase and $2,500.
Canales is a nursing coordinator and certified school nurse for Central Bucks School District. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Gwynedd-Mercy College in 1983, and later earned a School Nurse Certificate from Eastern College, then a Master of Science in Nursing from Gwynedd-Mercy College. Canales has worked in a variety practice settings throughout of her 33 years as a professional nurse. Each year, she volunteers for the American Lung Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania as the nursing director for its annual Asthma Camp.
Based on a 2009 national report from the American Enterprise Institute, Gwynedd-Mercy College ranked fourth in its category for high graduation rates.
