ST.PAUL, MN (04/07/2010)(readMedia)-- On Thursday, April 15, Northwestern College's annual Day of Prayer & Service initiative will send students, faculty and staff out into the metro community to spend a day focused on prayer and serving local organizations.
This year is especially significant as it marks the 10-year anniversary of the initiative. Though it has grown in many ways, the Day of Prayer & Service continues to focus on the same core vision established in 2000: A day set aside for the entire Northwestern community to celebrate two distinct disciplines of Christianity.
"On this specific day we focus on connecting with God through prayer and connecting with community through service," said Jeff Snyder, associate dean and Day of Prayer & Service coordinator. "Though prayer and service are not exclusive to one day of the year, we set aside this day to specifically celebrate those ministry efforts."
Hundreds of Northwestern community members will serve at more than 40 organizations including Feed My Starving Children, Union Gospel Mission, People Serving People and Metro Hope Ministries. Though Snyder assists in selecting participating organizations, students and staff are welcome and encouraged to find a service project that interests them.
