GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA (08/10/2010)(readMedia)-- Gwynedd-Mercy College welcomes Robert N. Funk, PhD, of Frederick, Md., as interim vice president for academic affairs. He has held positions in the higher education field for nearly 50 years.

Most recently, Funk served as provost and dean of the faculty at Hood College in Maryland. He has previously served in numerous administrative positions, including president of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, a position he held for nine years, along with president ad interim of Hood College, Villa Julie College in Maryland, and St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas.

Throughout his career, Funk has served in many roles at his alma mater, Stanford University, including assistant dean, lecturer in the School of Education, visiting scholar and special assistant to the vice president of finance.

He has earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Stanford University, a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts in English, both from the University of Oregon.

"His record of service to American higher education is remarkable, and the college will be positively influenced by Dr. Funk during his time here due to the breadth and depth of his experience in institutions similar to Gwynedd-Mercy College."

Based on a 2009 national report from the American Enterprise Institute, Gwynedd-Mercy College ranked fourth in its category for high graduation rates. The college prepares students to become top professionals in the fields of allied health professions, arts and sciences, business, education and nursing. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1948, Gwynedd-Mercy College is a coeducational institution offering more than 40 associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs on a full- and part-time basis.
