ALBANY, NY (02/25/2016)(readMedia)-- PHANTOM CARRIAGE [KÖRKARLEN] (Sweden, 1921, 93 minutes, b/w, directed by Victor Sjöström, silent with live accompaniment by Mike Schiffer) will be shown on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. Sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute as part of its Spring 2016 Classic Film Series, the screening is free and open to the public.

The last person to die on New Year's Eve becomes the next year's driver of the coach that carries the souls of the dead in this silent classic based on the novel by Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöf. Filmmaker Ingmar Bergman cited the film as a major influence on his work. The film will be presented with live piano accompaniment by Mike Schiffer.
