"The Conversation" to be screened November 7, 2014

ALBANY, NY (10/23/2014)(readMedia)-- THE CONVERSATION (United States, 1974, 113 minutes, color, directed by Francis Ford Coppola) will be shown on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. The screening is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute in conjunction with UAlbany's School of Criminal Justice's Civility, Surveillance, and Public Spaces Film Series. [Note: The appearance by the composer of the film's score, David Shire, who was scheduled to provide film commentary following the screening, has been cancelled.]

In this brilliant psychological thriller, written, produced, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Gene Hackman and John Cazale, a surveillance expert experiences a moral crisis when he comes to believe that the targets of his spying activities will be murdered. THE CONVERSATION won the Palme d'Or at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival, and in 1995 it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." The film also received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
